Person-to-Person Cultural Diplomacy begins with a willingness to engage.

Lifestyle Art Project: India

Pamela Smith started this ball rolling. Her curiosity about—and devotion to—India was the impetus for Lifestyle Art Project: India (LAP: IN). Pam has sold

my visual art to her clients over the years, and some of those clients have subsequently become collectors of my work.  It was Pam’s idea to involve New York collector Bob Bass who provided the initial support.

At a crucial juncture, we shared our planning with collector Gary N. Davis in Malaysia who backed his palpable excitement with financial support for our endeavor. While still in the planning phase, New Delhi based independent curator Himanshu Verma helped us to define our work in India.

Once in India, O.P. Jain, the staff and fellow artist residents at Sanskriti Kendra were most helpful with introductions and many of the specifics of daily logistics.

Of our many meetings in New Delhi, Anne Seshadri and Madhuri Sehgal at The American Center, Embassy of the United States of America, sent us positive new directions as we began planning for subsequent return trips to India.

The enthusiasm and steadfast support of Mukesh Panika at Religare Arts Initiative set us toward a grand vision for our future work to include an exhibition, workshops, screenings, performances and collaborations with India artists, musicians, dancers, and performers.
